Public power utilities now have an opportunity to
leverage economies of scale when it comes to operating and maintaining
combustion turbine generators.
Introducing the CT-SPIN (Combustion Turbine Spare Parts) Initiative
from Colectric Partners, Inc. This program
allows participating utilities to share access to a pool of new
and refurbished spare parts for GE Frame 7 turbines.
Colectric's CT-SPIN program manages
a pool of combustion (CI) and hot gas path (HGP) parts
for GE 7FA combustion turbine generators. By coordinating outage
planning for participating utilities, as well as supplying automated
parts tracking and inventory control, Colectric
helps public power utilities save millions of dollars in parts
costs. In fact, an initial scoping study showed a benefit-to-cost
ratio
of more than 10 for the existing fleet of 10 turbines.
As the program is implemented for the GE 7FA fleet,
Colectric will add other parts and equipment according
to demand—including CI/HGP parts for GE 7EA turbines. The
company will also consider similar opportunities for steam turbines
and the balance of the plant. Other combustion turbines, including
aeroderivatives, will be included depending on the level of public
power interest and demonstrated economy-of-scale benefits.
Private and investor-owned utilities have long used
similar approaches to managing parts and repair costs through fleet
management programs. However, Colectric is the
first and only organization to deliver a dedicated parts sharing
program solely for the benefit of public power. In addition, Colectric
offers a ready-made infrastructure and experienced energy professionals
for managing the fleet program.
Participation in Colectric's CT-SPIN program is available to not-for-profit state and municipal utilities
(as defined in the Internal Revenue Code) who are either Full Members
or Initiative Partners of Colectric.
